Define anatomy/physiology/pathophysiology/homeostasis

  • Anatomy= the study of body structure
  • Physiology= the function of body
  • Pathophysiology=Improper function “what went wrong”
  • Homeostasis= Stable, staying the same

Directional Terminology

  • Anterior (Ventral)= “Front”
  • Posterior (Dorsal)= “Back”
  • Inferior= bottom
  • Superior= top
  • Lateral= away from midline (side)
  • Medial =center or in the middle
  • Proximal =close to attachment
  • Distal= away from point of attachment
  • Central= Part is IN center (The Heart)
  • Peripheral= part is AWAY from center (blood vessels)
  • Superficial= on or near body, above (Skin)
  • Deep= away from surface of body, under (Bones)

Body regions • Cervical (neck)

• Cranial (skull) • Frontal (forehead) • Occipital (base of skull) • Oral (mouth) • Orbital (eyes) • Axillary (armpit) • Deltoid (shoulder) 1 / 2

• Pectoral (chest) • Scapular (shoulder blade) • Sternal (breastbone) • Vertebral (backbone) • Abdominal (abdomen)
