NREMT Trauma Assessment

1. Takes or verbalizes appropriate PPE precautions: BSI Gloves, Mask etc.

  • Scene safe? Determines the scene/situation is safe
  • States mechanism of injury Determines the mechanism of injury/nature of
  • illness

  • How many patients are there? Determines the number of patients
  • EMS assistance needed? Requests additional EMS assistance if necessary

9. Determines responsiveness/level of consciousness: What's your name?,

Where are you right now?, What day is it?, Tell me what happened.

10. AVPU: Alert and Oriented X 1-4, Verbal, Pain, Unresponsive

11. Determines chief complaint/apparent life-threats: Ask patient why did you

call me here today? What is/are the Chief Complaint or Apparent life-threats

12. Airway: Opens and assesses airway, Inserts adjunct as indicated, Suction

Needed?

13. Breathing: Assess Breathing, assures adequate ventilation, *OXYGEN THER-

APY High Flow Non-Rebreather at least 10 LPM, manages injuries that compromise breathing/ventilation

  • Circulation: Checks pulse Rate and Quality, Assess skin - color temp, condition,
  • Assess and control major bleeds, initiate shock management , positions-patient

  • Identifies patient priority and makes treatment/transport decision ,based

on GCS: High priority patient ,load and go

  • Obtains baseline vital signs: BP, Respiration ,Rate & Quality
