-Treatment= rest, ultrasounds, serial hCG levels and progesterone levels monitored
- Inevitable abortion
treatment?
Answer -moderate bleeding, mild to severe cramping, no passage of tissue, cervical dilation
-Treatment= Expectant management if no pain, bleeding, or infection but if present prompt termination of pregnancy surgically or by D&C
- Missed abortion
Treatment and interventions?Answer -in utero death before 20 weeks, no bleeding, no cramping, no tissue passed, no cervical dilation, NO FHR
-Treatment= Expectant management or can be terminated with oral or vaginal misoprostol (Cytotec) or surgically by D&C 1 / 2
- Incomplete abortion
Treatment?
Answer -heavy bleeding, severe cramps, passage of tissue, and cervical dilation with tissue in cervix
-Treatment= Suction curettage but Cytotec also an option, and may or may not require additional cervical dilation before curettage
- Complete abortion

Answer -slight bleeding, mild cramping, passage of tissue, no cervical dilation (cervix already closed after tissue passed)

None if contractions are adequate to prevent hemorrhage and no infection present; if expelled sac not identified transvaginal US to differentiate between complete miscarriage, threatened abortion, or ectopic pregnancy

Answer -bleeding varies, usually malodorous, may or may not be cramping and passage of tissue, usually there is cervical dilation

immediate termination of pregnancy, by suction curettage, followed by broad spectrum antibiotic; if necessary treatment for septic shock
