Pulse sites - ANSWER-temporal, carotid, apical, brachial, radial, ulnar, femoral, popliteal, posterior tibial, dorsalis pedis

Taking an oral temp - ANSWER-cover thermometer probe with disposable probe cover place the probe beneath the patient tongue in the posterior sublingual pocket and ask the patient to wrap their lips around the probe hold in place until you hear a beep note the temp reading remove probe from patient mouth and dispose probe cover into appropriate receptacle

Taking tympanic Membrane temp - ANSWER-push the on button and wait for the ready signal attach the disposable cover to tympanic probe pull the pinna up and back (for adult) to straighten ear canal and insert the probe snugly into the external ear using gentle but firm pressure angling the unit toward the patients jaw line. Activate the unit by pushing the trigger button the reading is immediate. Note the temp. DIscard probe cover.

Counting radial pulse - ANSWER-gently place 3 fingers on the radial pulse located on the wrist below the thumb. Do not use the tips of your fingers to avoid feeling your own pulse. Do not push down forcefully and cut off the arterial pressure. Count pulse for 30 seconds or one minute if pulse is irregular. If unable to find the radial pulse a Doppler may be used to locate and count.

Taking temporal artery temperature - ANSWER-brush the patients hair aside apply probe cover hold the unit with thumb on the on button and place the probe flush on the center of the forehead with body of the instrument sideways depress the on button and slowly slide the probe straight across the forehead, midline to the hairline. the thermometer will click (fast clicking indicates a rise to a higher temp and slow clicking means the device is still scanning if required based on specific thermometer brush hair aside if it is covering the ear, exposing the area of the neck under the ear lobe, life probe from forehead and touch on the neck just behind the ear lobe release button and read temp dispose probe cover
