-nitrates (meats and hotdogs) -vinegar -onions -fermented or marinated meats -caffeine -oranges -tomatoes -aspartme -nicotine -ice cram -alcohol -emotional stress -fatigue

  • tension headache
  • Answer -cause not fully understood and believed to be a with neurovascular factors 1 / 2

  • Tension clinical manifestations
  • Answer -bilaterl

-constant -dull pressure -band like headache at base of skull -increased palpable tone in the neck and cervical muscles -may involve sensitivity to sound and light -occurs intermittently

-physical exam -looking for stiffness and tenderness of the head -EMG may reveal sustained contraction in the neck muscles

  • symptomatic drug therapy tension

-can also be combined with sedatives (Butalbital), muscle relaxers (Tizanidine, chlorzoxazone), and tranquilizers (Xanax)
