Title: Urinalysis

Purpose: In this lab, experiments were carried out for studying a

chemical examination of a simulated urine sample.

Procedure

(1) Test for Chloride (��−)

• Prepare mixture of AgN�3 and ��− solutions

(2) Test for Phosphate (��3−3 ) 1.Prepare mixture of ��4 and (��4)2���3 solutions

• Add few drops of ���3solution
• Put a test tube into hot water for a few minutes and come back and

observe to look for a yellow solid

(3) Test for Calcium (��+�)

repare ��+2 s olution 2.Add (��4)2� 2�4

(4) Test for Ammonium ( ��4+)

• Prepare ��4+ solution
• Add OH− solution
• Detect by using

pH paper having a pH=6 (orangish color)

• Don’t touch to the tube, just let the vapor over the tube impact the pH

paper and observe the color change by ��3 vapor

(5) Test for Protein

• Prepare egg white (albumin) protein solution
• Add couple of mL of 10% NaOH (Biuret test)
• Next add 1%

����4 (light blue color) put in test tube as a blank before adding 4.Next add both the ����4, NaOH, and egg protein, mix and observe the color

(6) Test for Sugars 1.Prepare Benedict’s reagent which is (��+2) solution
