Questions with Correct Answers BLS assessment - Correct Answer 1. Check for responsiveness and breathing

  • Shout for help
  • Check for breathing and pulse
  • Defibrilation
  • Check for responsiveness and breathing - Correct Answer 1. Give oxygen to pt's with acute cardiac symptoms

  • Simultaneously shake and shout (if trauma touch and talk)
  • If unrespsonive, pt not breathing or breathing agonally then shout for help
  • Shout for help - Correct Answer 1. Activate the emergency response system

  • Get and AED if one is available
  • Send someone to acticate the emergency response system and obtain an AED
  • Check for breathing and pulse - Correct Answer 1. Check for absent or abnormal breathing

  • If their is only gasping by lookingat or scanning the chest for movement for about 5-10 seconds
  • Ideally the pulse check is performed and simultaneously with the breathing check to minimize
  • delay in detection of cardiac arrest and initiation of CPR

  • Check for pulse 5-10 seconds
  • If no pulse within 10 seconds, start CPR, beginning with chest compressions
  • If there is a pulse start recuse breathing at 1 breath every 5-6 seconds. Check pulse about every 2
  • minutes.

  • If no pulse check for a shockable rhythm with an AED/defibrilator as soon as it arrives. Provide
  • shock as indicated

  • Follow each shock immediately with CPR, beginning with compressions
  • No pulse for 10 seonds - Correct Answer Start CPR beginning with chest compression If there is a pulse - Correct Answer Start rescue breathing at 1 breath every 5-6 seconds. Check pulse every 2 minutes 1 / 2

  • Taking to long to give breaths to the pt
  • Unnecessarily moving the pt

  • Compress the chest at a rate of 110-120
  • Compress the chest hard and fast
  • Allow complete chest recoil after each compression
  • Minimize interruptions in compressions (10 seconds or less)
  • Avoid excessive ventilations
  • Switch compressor about every 2 minutes or earlier if fatigued, switch should take less than 5
