WGU D095 Managing engaging learning environments Task 2 Western Governors University A: 1-Video 4: Analyzing and Discussing Othello by William Shakespeare In video 4, students have their desks in the shape of a circle facing each other. There is a slide being projected onto a whiteboard that looks like it may be a passage from the story they’re discussing. The teacher is standing at his desk asking students questions and provoking thoughts. The students are engaged in the discussion, taking turns answering questions, piggybacking off one another and just sharing their own thoughts.2- This approach seems to be very effective. Students are participating in the discussion. By moving the desks this way and allowing students to take turns speaking and thinking freely, the teacher is giving all students the opportunity to see their peers’ points of view. This also supports the students who have a harder time understanding Shakespeare. By listening to their peers share their thoughts they are able to comprehend more.A3a- If I had an English Learner, I would provide them with a vocabulary list that explains the dialogue in Shakespeare. I’d also work one on one with them to help modernize some of the text.A3b- If I had a student that seemed disinterested I would make sure to greet them on a daily basis to make sure they know I care. I’d also provide positive feedback when they participate to help keep them motivated to learn.B1- Video 10- Practicing Presentation and Audience Skills Through Science Presentations In video 10, a class of kindergarteners are seated on a carpet in the front of the classroom. The teacher is holding a chart and asking students to explain what classroom behavior expectations are listed on it.There is a video being projected onto a whiteboard in front of the students. After the video, the teacher has an easel with questions written down about the video. The students then break into “Share Pairs” where they discuss elements of the video. The teacher is making sure students are aware of expected behaviors and reminds the students throughout. While watching the video she quietly interacts with her students to make sure they’re keeping attention. She asks the students questions afterwards and provides friendly feedback when students cooperate or do something. She makes sure to call on students she hadn’t heard from yet to ensure everyone is a part of the lesson. The students are engaged in the lesson and were excited to talk about the video. They were being respectful when their peers were speaking and raised their hands when they had something to add. All students had a chance to participate. As expected for kindergarteners, they had to be redirected a few times to keep their eyes forward but did a good job listening.B2-The teacher did a great job with classroom management and student engagement by having the
