What differences and similarities do you see with regard to the ACA and ASCA Code of Ethics and informed consent, if any?The similarities that the ACA and the ASCA Code of Ethics and inform consent form would be Confidentiality. As counselors we are listening to so many stories and issues until there has to be some control of privacy with the students or clients. As an counselors we write many reports and most of the time if a student can’t trust you as a professional counselor than they will not open up or complete assessment when needed.Another area of similarities would be consent the guardian or parent has to consent to meet with the counselor through signature. Without a person consent you can be left with legal issues. The next area of similarities would be the appropriate group topic and parental involvement.Releasing information to the school or courts if necessary was in the consent form. The consent form was from St. Mary’s in Oregon an IBS World school. As they stated that they cover 16 topics and sometimes in group sessions or private session depending on the request and assessment needed. In the consent form it clearly states if there are court information the counselor can request to receive the documents or information that will help with the student. What differences do you see in the 2 written informed consent forms for each setting (e.g., content, length, dissemination)? After completing seeing the 2 written inform consent forms each setting was different with the wording they use and also the information that was provided in some sections. The content was address almost the same due to each person must sign the documents and the parents must also agree. The consent form addresses, the purpose of these sessions and tells it’s to provide guidance on topics with which school aged students sometimes struggle. The second consent form Lawrence University Consent form where they stated often the student/client may have anxiety during the session. I believe this helps the client/student to get comfortable and ensure the counselor is someone that understands there need. The next difference I saw on the this consent form was the age on if they were under the age of 18years and learn of any neglect sexual abuse and any other issues to you must report it to the child protective services. The other difference with the Lawrence University is the therapist can be held to testify in court if needed through the sessions.
